Scaling Magnetic Particle Inspection for Growing Production Volumes
#1
Hi colleagues! I’d like to ask for some advice from those who have scaled their magnetic particle inspection process as production increased. We’re a growing company manufacturing machined steel components for transport equipment. Two years ago, MPI was something we performed occasionally — mostly random checks or upon special client request. Now it’s becoming a routine part of our quality control process. The challenge is that our current setup (portable yokes + dry powder) starts to feel inefficient when inspecting batches of 30–50 parts daily. Operators get tired, inspections take longer, and consistency becomes harder to maintain. I’m worried that as volume increases, we may compromise detection reliability or turnaround time. Has anyone here successfully transitioned from a “small workshop” MPI approach to something more structured and production-oriented? What changes made the biggest difference — automation, different magnetization methods, switching to wet systems? Also, where did you compare system options before investing? I’d prefer something technical and detailed, not just general advertising.
